Straka Surges Ahead With 64 to Take Solo Lead Into Final Round at Albany
The third round of the 2025 Hero World Challenge began with five players tied for the lead. After 18 holes on Saturday at Albany, Bahamas, Sepp Straka stood alone atop the leaderboard.
Straka shot an 8-under-par 64, tying the low round posted this week. The top-ranked Austrian golfer leads two-time defending champion Scottie Scheffler by one shot going into Sunday’s final round. In 2023, Straka finished runner-up to Scheffler, who claimed the first of his back-to-back victories at Albany that year. Now two years later, Straka aims to keep it simple tomorrow to reverse fortunes against the world’s top-ranked player.
Albany Delivers Another Thriller as Five Players Share the Lead Through 36 Holes
The second round of the 2025 Hero World Challenge ended the same way as the first round; with five players tied atop the leaderboard. Cameron Young, Hideki Matsuyama, Wyndham Clark, J.J. Spaun and Akshay Bhatia all stand at 10-under-par 134 after 36 holes at the tournament’s midpoint.

Scottie Scheffler repeats at Albany
World No.1 Scottie Scheffler finished Sunday at Albany in the exact same location as last year, on the 18th green as the winner of the Hero World Challenge. Scheffler defended his title and in the process tied the Albany record for the event, finishing at 25-under-par 263.
Making moves at Albany
The third round is often referred to as moving day, and that’s exactly what happened on Saturday at Albany. Justin Thomas moved into the lead at 17-under-par, thanks to a 6-under 66. He holds a one-shot lead over defending champion Scottie Scheffler, who is looking for his second consecutive victory in four starts at Albany.
Scottie makes his move
Reigning Olympic champion and world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler showed why he is among the favorites this week at Albany during Friday’s second round. Scheffler shot out of the gates, starting the round with four straight birdies en route to a front-nine 7-under-par 29. He remained bogey-free on the back nine and posted a second-round 64 to sit atop the leaderboard at 13-under 131, posting the lowest 36-hole score at Albany in tournament history.
Young jumps to early lead at Albany
Cameron Young surged to a lead early in his round at Albany, Bahamas and never looked back. On the strength of eight birdies, Young posted an 8-under-par 64 to set the pace after the first round of the 2024 Hero World Challenge.
Driving impact for 25 years
The Hero World Challenge was created by Tiger Woods and his father Earl as a way to make a positive impact on the lives of kids from under-resourced communities. First played in January 2000; the tournament has become an annual staple on the PGA TOUR schedule, with Tiger serving as host. Since that first playing at Grayhawk Country Club in Arizona, the tournament has grown in stature and impact on and off the course, raising funds and awareness for Tiger’s nonprofit, TGR Foundation.

Scheffler shines
The third time is the charm. After second place finishes at Albany in 2021 and 2022, World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler capped off this year with a victory in the 2023 Hero World Challenge. Following an opening round 69, Scheffler took control of the tournament with rounds of 66 and 65 on Friday and Saturday – both the low rounds of the days. A final-round 68 Sunday sealed the victory.
Scheffler soars to the top
On a hot and humid day at Albany, Bahamas, it was the world’s top-ranked player who lit up the leaderboard Saturday, as World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler made a big move during the third round of the 2023 Hero World Challenge. After finishing second in his previous two appearances at Albany, Scheffler will look to close out the Hero World Challenge with a victory Sunday.
Familiar faces sit atop the leaderboard
In his two previous Hero World Challenge starts, Scottie Scheffler has finished in second place. He is once again in the mix after 36 holes at Albany, Bahamas. The world’s top ranked player shot a Friday-best 66 (-6) to vault himself into a tie with Jordan Spieth at nine-under for the tournament. The two former Texas Longhorns will head into the weekend looking to keep their momentum going.
Setting the pace
The 2023 Hero World Challenge got underway at Albany, Bahamas at 10:46 a.m. Thursday when Brian Harman hit the tournament’s opening tee shot. The defending Open Championship winner earned an invite to Albany thanks in part to his major victory in July.
